Ayush Sharma and Abhimanyu Puranik wins the 4th Anniversary Phoenix ChessBase India Chess Blitz & Rapid tournament respectively

The 4th Anniversary Phoenix ChessBase India Chess Club Rapid & Blitz Rating Tournament was held from 28th February to 1st March at Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla. Ayush Sharma won the Rapid event, claiming Rs. 51,000 and a trophy, followed by Om Kadam (Rs. 30,000 + trophy) and Akshay Borgaonkar (Rs. 20,000 + trophy). In the Blitz tournament, GM Abhimanyu Puranik finished first with Rs. 31,000 and a trophy, while Kartavya Anadkat and Mitrabha Guha took second and third. The event saw over 400 players and strong audience participation across two days. Check out detailed results for all categories, including top finishers and special awards.



Ayush Sharma wins Rapid & Abhimanyu Puranik wins Blitz tournament

On 19th March 2026, the ChessBase India Chess Club at Phoenix Marketcity Mall will complete 4 years. On this occasion, the 4th Anniversary Phoenix ChessBase India Chess Club Rapid & Blitz Rating Tournament was held from 28th February to 1st March at the Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla. The total prize fund was Rs. 3 lakh for Rapid and Rs. 2 lakh for Blitz.

Rapid tournament

The Rapid event took place on 28th February with 402 players competing over 9 rounds. Ayush Sharma won the Rapid title by scoring a full 9/9 points. As the Champion, he received Rs. 51,000 and a trophy. Om Kadam finished second with a score of 8/9. He took home Rs. 30,000 and a trophy. Akshay Borgaonkar finished third and won Rs. 20,000 and a trophy. He scored 7.5/9.

Blitz tournament

The Blitz event was held on 1st March, also with 9 rounds and 370 participants. Abhimanyu Puranik finished first in the tournament by scoring 8.5/9. He won Rs. 31,000 and a trophy. Kartavya Anadkat finished second with a score of 8/9. He took home Rs. 20,000 and a trophy. Mitrabha Guha finished third and won Rs. 15,000 and a trophy. He also scored 8/9.

Chess results

Around 100–150 parents and accompanying persons attended each day. The total footfall was about 600 on Day 1 and 550-600 on Day 2. The closing ceremony was held on 1st March after all the rounds at the same venue.
